How this stays free, and what we will and won't monetize.

The pattern that kills free platforms is bait-and-switch: free forever turns into "pro tier required" or "sponsored ranking unlocked." This page is the commitment we won't do that, named in advance.

The floor — always free

  • Submit a product — free.
  • Verify ownership — free.
  • Post asks — free.
  • Comment, review, get feedback — free.
  • Be discovered — free.

We will never charge a verified maker to list a product, post an ask, receive a review, or appear in the feed. Optional services may be paid later. They will never buy ranking, credibility, or distribution.

What we run on

icantmarket sits on the founder's existing VPS + Postgres fleet. Marginal infra cost is rounding-error at <10k verified makers — it's already paid for by other things on the same boxes. Email delivery uses Resend's free tier through Phase 1. The platform is closed-source hosted (like F5Bot) so the codebase doesn't need to support 1,000 self-hostable variants.

We won't raise from venture investors for this. The exit pressure model is incompatible with the floor above. If we ever need cash, we'll look at the "may-be-paid-later" list below, in order.

What may be paid later (none of it core)

If we ever monetize, here's the menu — all optional, all orthogonal to the verified-maker-posting loop:

  • Concierge matching. We match your ask to 5 qualified reviewers from a vetted pool. Doesn't affect free-tier feed ranking.
  • Private founder circles. Small curated groups by category/stage. Same posting rules inside, just narrower audience.
  • Expert office hours. Paid access to vetted specialists for things outside peer-review range (legal, accounting, security audits).
  • Team / accelerator / OSS-foundation plans. For groups that want shared workspaces.
  • Digest sponsorship. Clearly labeled. Never influences ask ranking. Sponsor doesn't see who clicked.

What we explicitly won't monetize

  • Pay-to-be-verified — verification stays free
  • Pay-to-rank or pay-to-promote in the feed
  • Paid badges that look like trust signals
  • Selling user data — full stop
  • Lifetime-deal AppSumo sprees
  • Advertising that targets users by their content

The commitment

We will operate icantmarket through 2028 at minimum, regardless of donation or sponsorship state.

If we ever shut down, you get 90 days' notice and an export of every post, comment, and review you authored. Verified product pages export as plain markdown. We will never let a shutdown be a surprise.

If you want to chip in

Donations are optional, invisible, and won't buy you anything. They help with infra, moderation tooling, and the occasional reviewer honorarium for hard cases. Drop something via GitHub Sponsors / Buy Me a Coffee / Open Collective when those links go live during Phase 1.

If you can't or don't want to: review one ask a day. That's worth more.
